Hawke’s Bay continues its acclaim as the pre-eminent red wine region in New Zealand. Merlot and Cabernet, common in Bordeaux, are blends that capture the terroir well in the region, effortlessly reflecting vineyard and winemaking practice.

Ngatarawa continues its acclaim as a premium producer of Merlot based reds. Glazebrook, the regional reserve label, expresses its philosophy of ‘best grapes from best regions’ distinctly in the 2007 Merlot Cabernet blend.

Just awarded a gold medal in the New Zealand International Wine Show 2009, Glazebrook Merlot Cabernet 2007 is produced from 14 year old vines grown on the deep free-draining gravels in Gimblett Gravels and the Bridge Pa Triangle west of Hastings. Glazebrook Merlot Cabernet 2006 also received a gold medal in the 2008 Liquorland Top 100.

2007 was not a typical growing season - cool until January, the weather was warm and dry for the rest of the season. A winter drought ensued.

A blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), the resulting wine expresses a concentrated richness of berry fruit and plum flavours that is textured with fine grained tannins - hallmarks of the gravels sub regions.

The Glazebrook range is produced exclusively for fine dining. Perfectly matched to most red meat dishes and strongly flavoured cheese, Glazebrook Merlot Cabernet 2007 will benefit from further bottle maturation through to 2014. Negociants New Zealand distributes the Glazebrook range.
