June 2006 - Ngatarawa Tops in Barrel Bids
Ngatarawa's 225 litre barrique - a 2004 Merlot Cabernet - raised $8,200 in this year's charity wine auction.
The Midland's Hawke's Bay Charity Wine Auction 2006, held in the Tom McDonald Cellar at Church Road Winery on Sunday 4th June, was boosted by a record bid of $35,000 for the painting Good Health by renowned Hawke’s Bay artist Dick Frizzell.
A 12 litre bottle of wine also broke records reaching an impressive $11,000. The wine, from Esk Valley The Terraces 1991 vintage had been kept in optimum conditions by the McKearney family and donated back to the Midland’s Charity Wine Auction by Murray McKearney after the death of his wife Norma last year. The McKearney's are very old friends of Ngatarawa and it is a fitting tribute to her.
Ngatarawa is a platinum donor to Cranford Hospice - our lots having raised in excess of $100,000 over the last 16 years. We thank the Sage family for their successful bid of $8,200 on the 2004 Ngatarawa Merlot Cabernet 225 litre barrique.
The auction raised $175,000 in total. Over $1.5 million has been raised since 1991.
